Career Advice
by Lora Tsang (BSc Computer & Business Studies)

University life is an exciting time in anyone's life. Higher education is intellectually stimulating, it opens up new opportunities, and it brings with it new responsibilities. Graduating from university is a challenge. The opportunities for personal development do not end when you get your degree certificate and so making the right career choice is important. For graduates from any discipline, the financial service industry could be a choice, especially in HK where limited industries are given.

You may think that this is a normal path for most graduates coming back to HK. However, in many cases, many find that going into financial or audit industry is not what they want in the end. My suggestion is to try the industry that you think you like at the beginning stage of your career. If it turns out not to be your cup of tea, do not hesitate to move out or change industry at this stage. You can afford to lose at such an early stage of your career. Why don't you open yourself to other industry?

I have seen successful examples of people working in marketing, advertising, human resources, etc. Most importantly, enjoy what you are doing so that you don't feel like working at all. I also discover that work life balance is essential in keeping you in a healthy condition to welcome challenge in your life. If you have an interest or hobby, keep it up. If you don't, explore some activities that may be of interest to you in the future.

Follow your heart, and do what you want, but bear the responsibility.
