Organised by the Friends
of British Council Hong
Kong, a subsidiary
charity of the British
Council, the dinner was
held at the luxurious
and vintage clubhouse in
the city hub. This
unique meet up with the
internationally renowned
series author has
attracted over 100 fans
and booklovers from the
town and around the
world.

On behalf of WGAHK and
the Warwick Hong Kong
Office, Dr Edmund Li,
Nancy Chui and Elaine
Hung participated in the
dinner and were charmed
by the charisma and wits
of Alexander McCall
Smith. During the
dinner, Prof. Smith
shared with audience his
busy life as an author
and screenwriter and how
his inspirations were
drawn from his real life
experience. Born in
nowadays Zimbabwe and
has worked in Botswana
for years, his love and
respect of the Botswana
people inspired his
creation of the No. 1
Lady Detective series
which is set against a
vivid African landscape.
His delicate and
critical observation of
his native Edinburgh
constitutes the incisive
and humane episode of
Scottish life in his 44
Scotland Street series.
Of course the evening
wouldn't be complete
without taking a picture
with Prof. Smith and
have our books signed!
