The Warwick Graduates¡¦
Association Hong Kong
(WGAHK) held its 10th
Anniversary Cocktail
Reception on Saturday
27th March 2004. The
event, held at British
Council Hong Kong, was
well attended by over
100 guests & alumni.
The reception was
co-hosted by Professor
David VandeLinde,
Vice-Chancellor of
University of Warwick
and Miss Yvonne Leung,
current Chairman of
WGAHK. The fact that
Professor & Mrs
VandeLinde could join
the reception after only
getting off a long
flight 4 hours prior to
the start of the
reception was certainly
a strong spirit booster
to WGAHK.
WGAHK was honoured to
have Professor
VandeLinde, Miss Yvonne
Leung and our Guests of
Honour ¡V Ms Elsie Leung,
Secretary for Justice,
HKSAR Government, Dr.
David Li, Chairman/CEO
of Bank of East Asia,
and Mr. Andrew Millburn,
Deputy Director of
British Council Hong
Kong ¡V delivering
opening speeches for us.

The speeches were
followed by a ribbon
cutting ceremony, which
symbolised the start of
the celebration year.
More anniversary
celebration events have
been planned with the
main event being the
grand annual dinner
which will be held on 4
December and a WGAHK
10th anniversary
souvenir book is being
prepared to be published
at the same time.
After the ribbon cutting
ceremony, Professor
VandeLinde presented the
Certificates of
Appreciation to 10
graduates for their
continuous support and
valuable contributions
to WGAHK. These
graduates include past
and present Chairmen of
WGAHK and those who have
served the WGAHK
executive committee for
10 years. He also
presented a gift from
Warwick Graduates¡¦
Association to WGAHK,
which was accepted by
our Chairman Miss Yvonne
Leung.
WGAHK was very pleased
with the turnout rate of
the reception as well as
the mix of participants.
Besides graduates, there
were current & ex
Warwick staff, current
Hong Kong students (who
were back for the Easter
Holiday), current UK
students (who were here
on an exchange programme),
school counsellors,
representatives of other
alumni associations etc.
From its beginning as a
small but eager group,
WGAHK has now developed
into one of the most
active UK alumni
associations in Hong
Kong. We believe that a
tight network and a
strong fraternity among
our graduates here will
provide an essential
environment for the
association to continue
to grow and flourish.
