WGAHK Annual Dinner 2006

The WGAHK Annual Dinner was held on 16 December 2006. This year we were delighted to have Prof. Nigel Thrift, Warwick’s new Vice-Chancellor and WGAHK’s new Honorary President, with us to share the joy at this memorable evening just before the end of the year.

Besides Prof. Thrift, university staff including Mr. Ron Gray (Development & Alumni Relations Office), Mr. Peter Jewel (Centre for English Language Teacher Education), Prof. Shaun Breslin (Department of Politics & International Studies), and some well-known alumni such as Dr. Martin Lee and Mr. Tsao Chip also joined us at this yearly reunion. It was a very well-attended evening with over 120 Warwickers and friends from across the years and different backgrounds.

Our MCs this year were Mr Liam Lai (LLB Law) and Miss Priscilla Lee (BSc Psychology & MA Organisation Studies). They brought to us an enjoyable time filled with fun and laughter. The evening began with a welcome speech by Mr Edward Tan, Chairman of WGAHK, who on behalf of the association, expressed our thanks to the Vice-Chancellor and our warmest welcome to all participants. Prof. Nigel Thrift then shared with us the latest developments of the University.

While having our delicious buffet dinner, we got to know each other and made some new friends through a game called ‘Warwick Name Scrabble’. After that we had the Warwick Quiz, which proved to be quite challenging even for some of the very knowledgeable academics present in the evening. The lucky draw after that was definitely the most exciting moment. We had a most successful raffle ticket sale this year and raised over HK$14,000 for the WGAHK Scholarship Fund.

The annual dinner was a remarkable success. Everyone had a good time meeting old and new friends.
